intervention " LA DANSE DES GRUES " 1984

description :

"DANCE OF THE CRANES” intervention 1984

“Full wind” exhibition, garden of the Bird Museum, Le Hourdel, France, AREA, F.I.A.C.R.E., Ministry of Culture, CNAP and the Conseil Général de la Somme

The space of air and its main streams have always matched the cardinal points and colors have been given to the winds that embody them: Aquilon is green, Auster is ochre, Eurus is white, Zephyr is black. The relationship between the earth and the winds is vital. In imagination, the idea of the Labyrinth and that of the flight of birds are often connected and Icarus, Daedalus’s son does escape from the trap set by Minos by flying away.

Theseus’s dance, also called “dance of the cranes” gave this land-art intervention its title.

description :

A four-entrance path is dug in a meadow at a depth of ten centimeters, then filled with plaster. In the North by a living tree, in the East a dead tree, in the South a circle filled with pebbles impregnated with ochre, in the West a black pool filled with water. An axis of matter and an axis of light.

And in the center, the removed earth was assembled in a mound covered with grass and eight alignments of pebbles were put down, straddling the intervention and the meadow. At the height of a person, they make no sense, except with they align themselves in the eyes of the wandering beholder… a little like the movements of air.
